Some sleep on cold concrete bed.

Some on slightly higher ground. It keeps them away from curious stray dogs and cats.

Some on a bedsheet in front of the shops.

Some have their heads rest on bag pillow and a bike to keep them company.

Others on three-wheel mobile cushioned bed the al fresco style.

And some fortunate ones have the luxury of sleeping in their shop while their workers toil away.

Sleep well.

Any better reason why should you not visit Penang if it is not for this one? Penang is placed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage list.

The architecture, the colours, the patterns, the oldness, the rusticity of olden day buildings that still stand pridefully are the subjects of admiration to most photo enthusiasts of today.

To see these heritage buildings preserved for the generations to come we can do other part by taking pictures of them before they are gone.

Penang is a place that spells F-O-O-D.

I won’t blog much in detail about the famous local food but I will just let some of the photos I took tell the story. Do google to find out more about Penang food if you want to know more.

Penang char kuey tiaw (sometimes spelled as char kway teow). Til today I still cannot really tell the distinctive difference between those in Penang and the ones in KL, but this one I had tasted really favourful.

Deep fried food – lobak, which are meat or seafood fritters.

This hawker stall uncle frying oyster omelette (or or chien in Hokkien dialect) with a style – look at his stylo googles!

Penang laksa is famous here but it is something I do not eat, but don’t ask me why.

BLUE.

It is not my favourite colour. It is not the colour I would wear. It is not the colour we would normally find in food. But it is the colour I love to see in the sky.

After coming back to KL yesterday the one thing I do miss the most is the clear blue skies in my hometown Miri. However, here are some of the blue photos from my Penang trip in June.

The bridge you cannot miss when you are crossing from the mainland to the island – the Penang Bridge! Shot this photo with my eye off the viewfinder. The car was going too fast for me to even focus n my little Olympus XA anyway.

Some notes I made when I was reading the book by John C. Maxwell – Failing Forward while waiting for boarding at the KLIA.

This is the 5th time this year and that broke my past records of going back once or twice a year in the past, especially during those years when I was under employment, as most of you know it is not easy to take leave from work and go away as often as you want to.

When I was asked about for what particular reason or occasion that I am going home this time I said none, do I even need any? Miri is my home. It is good to be with family. Just a couple of days ago I found out that both my youngest sister and mom’s birthdays fall on this week! NOW, I have a good reason for coming home! Yes, their birthday presents are all prepared, will wait til the celebration day.

Coming back home does not mean I am on holiday, yo, work continues still. It is about working at the comfort of my home-sweet-home environment without having to worry what’s for breakfast, lunch and dinner today. But I prefer my workstation in PJ with my cat, Bebe around and watch her nap and do all the funny little stuff she always does.

This is one of the self check-in machines at KLIA that I tried out for the first time since I had no luggage to check-in. Don’t think for one second I was carrying some lightweight luggage. I was just plain lazy to wait and collect my luggage at arrival so I wanted to keep things simple. One backpack with my MacBook Pro 15″, film rangefinder camera and another one a hand-carry portfolio bag with my artworks, books and a portable scanner. They were heavy, very heavy. But I am a superwoman. LOL

I never like waiting and doing nothing at the same time. A book is always handy and a good time filler.

My scheduled flight from KL to Miri was delayed for 35 minutes. Instead of sitting down and staring at everyone around I prefer to make good use of my time doing what’s more beneficial – reading and making notes. My Moleskine and fountain pen have been my great companions so far. (In case you are wondering what book is that I am reading it is FAILING FORWARD by John C. Maxwell. A very good book for those of you who want to succeed in life but do not how to deal with failure, this is the one for you.)

When I got on-board I proceeded to my seat 25D just to find that someone had already occupied it. (The 25th row is the third last row from the back, in case some of you may be wondering). To cut the story short, what happened was one of the men in the same row had changed his original seat number so he could sit together with his family and that affected some of the seat numbering. And so the air stewardess who attended to us gave me the man’s original seat at 5F since I was traveling alone. As some of the later passengers were coming in on-board I had to first wait at the back of the aircraft where food and drinks are kept (do you call it an aircraft pantry or something?) until the crowd was cleared and only then I could move forward to my new seat, right at the first row! Was not that an upgrade or what?! Hehe…

While waiting I saw this fisheye look alike mirror and I thought to myself why not take a picture of myself as I looked kind of funny in that mirror. Armed only with my cellphone as I held it up high and close to the mirror, one of the air stewards came rushing in to pick up an incoming call from the intercom, he turned around at the very moment I clicked the shutter. At first I thought, oh man this guy spoilt my beautiful picture but when I looked at the shot again after it was saved I had a second thought. I noticed there was a reflection of him not the one in the mirror but another one of his eyes looking at me or maybe my cellphone or maybe not, in the piece of metal thingy. It is subtle, it is surreal.

Anyway, one week is short, very short. Has not time been flying by so fast? We have come to the 11th month of 2009 today. Life have been great for me so far. Hope it is the same with you too!
